A new variation of «Orthodoxy, Autocracy, Nationality»?
Sultan Khamzaev, a member of the Russian Public Chamber, sent a letter to Pavel Krasheninnikov, co-chairman of the working group on preparing amendments to the Constitution, with a proposal to introduce a motto in the country’s main law, Russia Today reports.
The letter presents the opinion that all the predecessors of the Russian Federation, the USSR and the Russian Empire, had their own mottos — “Proletarians of all countries, unite!” and “God is with us!”
Khamzaev also mentioned that the USA, Great Britain, France and the Czech Republic have their own mottos.
«I propose to submit for public discussion the possibility of amendment “On the creation of the state motto of the Russian Federation”. He came up with the following options: “The victorious people”, “The first in space”, “Glory to our free Fatherland!”, “God, state, nation, family”.
Khamzaev believes that the motto of the state, with the flag, anthem and coat of arms, is the most important symbol of the country’s positioning for citizens and the international community.
Besides social activists, similar thoughts were expressed by representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church. Patriarch Kirill already talked about the need to include the mention of God in the preamble of the Constitution.
The «right» turn has been outlined for a long time, and now those in power are checking again whether we can endure the next «attack of patriotism», which is, in current conditions, always the establishment of trust in the «leader of the nation», the desire to achieve legitimacy in the situation of collapsing popularity ratings. Thus, we get another robbery of the country’s population, while it is «for the sake of Lord’s work».
“If people are forced to cross themselves and look at the sky while being robbed, this only means that the one who calls for this acts is playing along with the robbers. And sooner or later, people will understand this,” as Konstantin Semin, the leftist journalist, puts it.
